Tortuga Rum Cake

This company, Tortuga is really on the ball, because I just asked last week if I could review any product they wanted to send and it came this week! That was really fast and it told me something about this company and that is they are very Customer Service oriented. In this day and age, that is a rare and wonderful thing. They sent me a mini rum cake to review along with a box of Chocolate Rum Turtles with salt.

They have so many flavors to choose from besides the Golden Rum Cake and I am sure it is the universal favorite and plus you don’t want to send flavors because everyone is different and that would be too hard to send.

The list of flavors are: Cinnamon Raisin, Key Lime, Blue Mountain Coffee, Pineapple, Coconut, Banana, Chocolate and the Original Golden with Walnuts, which is the one I got to review!

First thing I noticed right away was the way it was wrapped. It came in one of those freeze dried wraps that suctions out all the air much like you do when you are storing your summer clothes in the winter. I learned they are heat sealed to lock in the freshness and can keep up to 12 months or indefinitely if refrigerated or frozen!

That told me that they wanted the cake to arrive as fresh as possible and that the company really put some thought into how to get their products shipped out from the Islands. By the way, they have stores in the Grand Caymans, Jamaica, Barbados and the Bahamas along with worldwide distribution, food service and a mail order & online sales from Miami, Florida.

When I cut the cake in half, I noticed it was so moist it stuck to my knife and my fingers! I love it when my cakes do that because it tells me it is so moist and I love them that way! Nothing is worse than a dry cake that you can’t even swallow. When the cake hit my mouth, it was so buttery and smooth, then the full rum flavor hit me as I was chewing and swallowing.

I think I will have to order one of those either for Thanksgiving or Christmas. The cakes range from 16 oz to 33 oz sizes and the price ranges from $17 to $32.

You can also find these cakes in specialty food departments and gourmet stores throughout the United States and the Caribbean by mail order at 800-444-06254 and online at www.tortugarums.com.
