Kicking Horse Coffee

Legend says coffee was first discovered in Ethiopia by a goat herder named Kaldi. He noticed his goats became frisky after munching on some unusual red cherries. He tried it himself and, well, the rest is you-know-what.

Special thanks to Kicking Horse Kick Ass Coffee for providing me a free sample to review.

It’s time to grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and let me introduce you to Kicking Horse Coffee.  Kicking Horse Coffee provided me with one of their brews, Kick Ass, for this review.  Personally I think this is the greatest name ever for a coffee brew.  Doesn’t it just sound like the perfect coffee to get you going in the morning?

Kick Ass coffee is a dark coffee and one that Kicking Horse describes as sweet, smoky, and audacious.  Under tasting notes, intense, full-bodied, and dark-roasted attitude are listed.  It is also 100% Certified Fair Trade and 100% Certified Organic, as are all of Kicking Horse’s coffees.  Their beans are also shade grown and all are roasted in Canada.

This coffee definitely lives up to the extra bold label that Kicking Horse gives it.  Kick Ass coffee is a nice strong brew, but one that is very smooth too.  I personally love strong, dark coffees; for me, the stronger the better.  Kick Ass was perfect.  There was no bitterness and the acidity that is sometimes found with dark coffees wasn’t there.  I was drinking heaven in a cup!

Kicking Horse Coffee offers nearly 20 different brews, each with its own clever name like Pacific Pipeline, a medium blend or Half Ass, also a dark blend, but with half the caffeine.  Whatever your taste buds desire in the likes of coffee, Kicking Horse Coffee is sure to offer it.  Their blends range from light to dark and from fully leaded (all the caffeine) to decaf with a half-caff in the middle.
