When it comes to great U.S destinations, Knoxville, Tennessee likely isn’t a city that you’ll fund on a lot of peoples’ lists. It’s extremely unfortunate, however, as Knoxville has some absolutely amazing attractions for people to see. In addition, since the city isn’t on most of the major tourism websites, most of the prices in the city are extremely low and can easily be afforded. In fact, even Knoxville houses for sale are much cheaper, if you ever wanted to move to the area. So what makes Knoxville such a great place to visit, and what are the places that you absolutely need to see when you’re in town? Let’s take a look.

World’s Fair Park

In 1982, World’s Fair Park hosted the World’s Fair, attracting millions of people to Knoxville. Although the area has changed a lot since then, the World’s Fair Park is still an important attraction in Knoxville. The park has several outdoor amenities like fountains and trails, making the area the perfect place for a walk or picnic. World’s Fair Park also has several areas for bands and other entertainers to perform, meaning that the area is the perfect place to catch some live entertainment. However, perhaps the most impressive part of World’s Fair Park is the Sunsphere. The large observation tower known as the Sunsphere allows visitors to ride to the top, giving them a fantastic view of the surrounding area.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Although not directly in Knoxville, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is extremely close to the city and can be a great option for a day trip. The Great Smoky Mountains attracts thousands of visitors every year, and it is often lauded as one of the best national parks in the country. What makes this attraction so great is how versatile it can be for visitors. One can go to the national park simply to take in the breathtaking scenery with a calm picnic, or they could use the park for some intense hiking. Regardless of what you plan to do in the park, you’ll surely be blown away by its beauty and majesty, which is just one of the many reasons why it’s one of the best attractions in the Knoxville area.

Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame

While often overshadowed by its counterpart the NBA, the WNBA and other areas of women’s basketball is still extremely important to the world of sports. Located in Knoxville is the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, a museum that honors those that made great contributions to the game of women’s basketball. The Hall of Fame displays various pieces of memorabilia, educational material, and interactive displays in order to effectively illustrate the history and importance of women’s basketball. Women’s basketball is growing as a sport and is being thrust in the spotlight more frequently in recent years, which gives you all the more reason to learn and study the game’s history.

Market Square District

Sometimes it’s not the skyscrapers and major attractions that are the best places to experience, but instead the local community’s events. A perfect example of this is Knoxville’s Market Square District, one of the most historic shopping venues in the country. Market Square is home to just about anything you could ever need, including shops, bars, restaurants, and theaters. In addition, there is a weekly farmer’s market where vendors from around the area come to sell their locally produced goods. Visiting this area is extremely interesting, as you get a blend of Knoxville history with a bit of current culture.
